Today Marco Amadeus is 3 years old.

Marco weighs 35.2 lbs (80th percentile) and is 39 1/4″ tall (90th percentile)

He spells his name constantly “M-A-R-C-O!”, and has successfully written his name several times.

Favorite book: Chu’s Day by Neil Gaiman (that’s my boy!)

He drew his first ‘smiley’ face in his friend’s birthday card:

Favorite music: The Decemberists

Counts to 40 before he stumbles a bit. Knows the alphabet backwards and forwards. Starting to recognize numbers and letters when he sees them in random places.

Marco has been potty trained since December of 2012 – and has had a total of three accidents (two of which occured during the 2-day training).

Fashion choices: sunglasses, Toms, capes, and nail polish on his toenails

I wish we could freeze this moment in time for just a little while.

Birthday party pictures coming shortly!

Yesterday Tim and I decided to find out how tall our boy is, and Mama almost couldn’t believe the tape measure… our boy is 3 feet tall! (if that whole urban legend is true, Marco will be about 6 feet when he’s an adult).

He also weighs 32 pounds. He’s actually lost a little weight since the last time we checked, but Mommy and Daddy think it’s because a certain 2 year old has decided that dinner time isn’t for eating, it’s for playing at the dinner table…

When he does eat, his favorites are:

Cheese (“What do you want for breakfast, Marco?” “Umm…cheese!”) – in all forms and types. Mozarella, cheddar, gouda, feta, fontina, gruyere, he’ll eat it all.
Watermelon (uttermelon)
Blueberries (Blue strawberries)
Blackberries (Black strawberries)
Canteloupe (Canlope)
Toast with jam
Yogurt pops – I throw yogurt and sliced straberries into a popsicle tray and freeze them, mostly so I can see Marco jump up and down and say “OGURT POPS!!!”

Other fun facts:

  • He loves trains (“Choo choo train!!”) and fire trucks the most, but trucks, tractors, cars, trailers, etc are all exciting.
  • Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Big Bird are still pretty popular.
  • He has peed into his potty a couple of times, but we’re not pushing him on the potty training right now.
  • I am a Bunny remains his favorite book, but lately he’s wanted us to read a lot of Skippyjon Jones and Curious George.
  • ‘That’s so funny!’ is his go-to phrase.
  • He can count to six, and knows most of his colors by sight – blue, orange and purple he knows the best.
  • This kid loves flash cards. He loves his Dr Seuss flash cards Grandma Denyse gave him for his birthday (numbers, shapes, and colors) and he loves the flash card apps Daddy downloaded onto his iPad. Tim downloaded one that not only says the animal name, but also makes the sound too – Marco is a big fan of making animal noises.
  • Marco wants to be just like Daddy, so in the morning he follows Tim into the bathroom to put on deodorant. Tim rubs a little on his underarm, then Marco runs to mommy so she can tell him how manly he smells. 😀
  • Marco also wants to be just like Mommy, and will sometimes steal her makeup brush and apply blush to his face.
  • Also, he likes to try on our shoes:
Snack time is definitely one of his favorite times of the day, as evidenced by this face:
And Independence Day might be his favorite holiday. This year, Marco watched Daddy light sparklers, and we woke him up from a deep sleep to climb on our roof and watch fireworks. He was giggling the whole time, pointing out the colors of each explosion. “Mama, orange!! That’s so funny!”

This boy

loves his soy ‘chik’n’ nuggets.

He also is 33 inches tall and weighs 29 1/2 pounds. WHOA.

New words (previous list HERE)
Instead of ‘otter’, he now says WaaWaa (Water)
Pees (Please)
Nana (Banana)
Elp (Help)
Dow (down)

Marco now tells us whenever he wants or needs a diaper change.

He’s been out of the high chair for awhile, but now he’s tired of the booster seat with the tray attached; we’re starting to leave off the tray and let him eat from the big boy table. 🙂

Marco loves to read his books, and lately his favorites are:

I Am A Bunny by Richard Scarry
Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Bill Martin Jr/Eric Carle
Mr Pusskins: A Love Story by Sam Lloyd
any of the Sesame Street board books (he likes to point out the characters)

Marco is starting to like Caillou on the Sprout channel, and the other day he was trying to sing the theme song. So cute!

Ham and cheese

New pictures! Marco is a ham. He loves posing for pictures, and will usually give me a grin when I ask. 😀 Lucky for us, because we love to photograph this handsome gent. Case in point: these pics of little man on his slide. Marco climbed and slid down his slide 20 times in a row, and each time he waited at the top and smiled – he wouldn’t slide down until I said “Cheese!” and clicked the shutter.

Haven’t posted height and weight in a long time, so here are the most recent numbers:

15 1 /2 months:

Height: 31 3/8″ (85th percentile)
Weight: 26 lbs (just under the 50th percentile

At last count, Marco has 8 top teeth and 10 bottom teeth! Unfortunately, they’ve all come in fairly close together – we’ve had some fun teething days.

Marco’s measurements:

Height: 29 inches (85th percentile)
Weight: 19 1/2 pounds (50th percentile)
Head circumference: 17 1/4 inches (25th percentile)

Still tall, but now he’s bulked up! His doctor was very pleased with his physical growth, though we need to continue with the iron supplements.

As far as mental development, the pediatrician said Marco is ahead of most 9 month old babies. He’s been pulling himself to standing for several months, and feeding himself small items like raisins, macaroni, yogurt melts, etc. since the end of December. Marco passes small objects from one hand to the other, and says ‘Mama’, ‘Dada’ and is trying to say ‘More’. He manages ‘maarrrr’. Last weekend we taught him clapping, and he’s starting to wave ‘hello’.

Favorite foods

dried cranberries
whole wheat toast
turkey with tomato and avocado
organic waffles
Annie’s organic whole grain bunny crackers

He eats anything and everything. With as much energy as he’s burning up, it makes sense!

Marco is almost ready for a front-facing car seat, holy mackerel!!

Height: 28 3/4″ (85th Percentile)
Weight: 18 lbs 2 oz (25th Percentile)

No teeth (4 months of teething and drooling, but nothing to show for it!), and no crawling. He has absolutely no interest in crawling. He loves to pull himself up to standing, but if he’s on his tummy he’ll just roll around until he can get himself into a sitting position. He gabbles to himself and practices his screeching abilities; he’s becoming quite loud, LOL. He loves to play with finger paints, and chews socks. WEIRD.

Marco’s starting to wave at people. He smiles and laughs all the time, and gives his Mama and Papa hugs and kisses; he wraps his little arms around our necks and opens his mouth wide for drooly kisses.

He’s eating EVERYTHING! Thank goodness he’s not a picky eater. His palate has approved of all of the following (most of it homemade, using the Beaba – we don’t buy jar food):

Chicken mixed with peas, avocado, or tomatoes
Sweet potatoes
Butternut squash
Bananas with strawberries or blueberries
Unsweetened applesauce (organic from Whole Foods) that I mix with blueberries, strawberries, or bananas
YoBaby Peach or Blueberry yogurt
Whole grain oatmeal
Cooked macaroni
Happy Baby yogurtmelts
Organic veggie puffs
Rice rusks

Finally, here are the pictures you’ve been waiting for 😉

Can I check my email on this?

Measure me!

Marco was such a CHAMP today at his appointment! He had 3 shots and 1 liquid vaccination (including his flu shot! he’s all set for the winter :D), and he only cried right before the shots, when the nurse held onto his legs in order to administer the shots. Brave boy. 🙂

His measurements:

Head Circumference: 16 1/2 inches (25th percentile)
Weight: 14 lbs, 10.5 oz (10th percentile)
Height: 27 1/4″ (75th percentile)

They weren’t concerned about his weight gain (or lack thereof), but I am, so they recommended giving him some Iron supplements in his bottles. It might help to make sure he’s growing at the proper rate. He seems so tiny! He has to go back next month for the 2nd part of his flu shot, so his doctor is going to check his weight and height again, to make sure he’s hitting his growth spurts.

Here’s some more cute pics!

Marco has started to grab books out of my hands when I am reading him stories, and it’s the cutest thing to see him looking at the books – even though he doesn’t even understand the concept! Half the time he tries to put the pages into his mouth, LOL!

5 Months

Marco is 5 months old!

Here’s what his feeding and nap schedule is like now:

8AM – Wake Marco up, feed him 7 oz bottle of formula
10:30AM – Down for a nap
12PM – LUNCH! Usually 3 tablespoons of rice cereal mixed with 3 oz formula, and some type of fruit or vegetable. Lately he’s loving Butternut Squash. I make his food using the Beaba Babycooker.
2:30PM – Down for a nap
4PM – 7 oz bottle of formula
6PM – fruit in his mesh feeder (banana or a strawberry)
7PM – Down for a nap
8PM – 7 oz bottle of formula before bed. We read him a story and put in him pajamas. He finishes his bottle by 8:30, but he’ll stay up in his crib talking to himself for about 30 minutes. Marco is such a goober. 😀

Measurements (done at home, percentile information taken from the CDC website)

Weight: 14 lbs, 6oz (10th percentile)
Length: just over 27 inches (95th percentile)
Head Circumference: 16 1/2 inches (75th percentile)

More pictures coming soon, but here’s one to whet your appetite:

Have you ever seen such beautiful eyes?

4 Months

Marco turned 4 months old on Monday!!

He had his wellness checkup at the pediatrician’s, and was given a clean bill of health.

Marco’s Measurements:
Length: 26 3/4 inches (98th percentile)
Weight: 14 pounds, 2 ounces (50th percentile)
Head Circumference: 16 1/4 inches (75th percentile)

He had to get 3 shots and one liquid vaccine, but he was so brave! He cried for a second, then stopped when I picked him up.

Marco is teething right now, so he’s been a bit cranky – but the Orajel seems to help with some of his pain.

Dr. Carillo also gave us the official go-ahead to start him on rice cereal! Here’s a funny picture of Marco after trying the rice cereal for the first time:

16 weeks

Marco doesn’t have an appointment with his pediatrician until he is 4 months old (September 27th is will be exactly 4 months), so I took his measurements at home and looked up his height-weight percentile on the CDC website:

Weight: 13 lbs (10% for age)
Height: 26.5 inches (98% for age)
Head Circumference: 16 inches (50% for age)

I’m a little worried about Marco’s weight, but he is eating what he should be, and doesn’t seem hungry when he finishes his bottles. He is drinking about 5 ounces of formula every 3 1/2 hours during the day, and his last feeding at 8:30pm is 6 ounces.

His height is amazing, but it is becoming difficult to carry him! I am too short for such a tall baby. 😀

Marco is learning to play with his toys, and has discovered that he has feet:
